Uchinaaguchi
(Okinawan Language) Class
Chogi
Higa founded the Ucchinaaguchi Class in 2002 in an effort to
preserve and broaden the natural language of Okinawa. As the
founder and Shinshii (instructor), he believes that in order
to fully understand the Okinawan culture, one must also become
familiar with its language.
The Uchinaaguchi class, “Katayabira Uchinaaguchi (Let’s talk
in Okinawan language)” usually meets on the 2nd Friday of
every month from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in room #103 at the OAA
Center.
The class is conducted in both Uchinaaguchi and English.
The course is predominantly based on learning the basic
vocabulary, grammar, dialogue and conversation.
There is a $5 donation requested at each class to cover the
cost of handouts, snacks and other miscellaneous expenses.
This class is open to OAA members only. If you are not a
member, you can contact the OAA at (310) 532-1929 or via email
at oaamensore@gmail.com for membership information.
Dates/times subject to change without notice.
