Organization

The Okinawa Association of America is managed by 15 elected Board of Directors. At annual membership meetings the members elect seven or eight Directors each year for a two-year term and a President for a two-year term. Two Vice Presidents, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and Chairs of the committees are appointed by the Board. The 15 Board of Directors and Officers meets at least once a month, and generally meet on the third Sunday of every month.

There are fifteen committees to provide specialized programs:

The Performing Arts Committee (Geino-Bu) is the largest group, and 24 independent Okinawan dance, music, and Taiko studios belong to the group. When needed, we create special committees to carry out special projects.

-------------

Currently about 800 families and individuals belong to the Association. Most of our members have some familial connection to Okinawa. However, anyone interested in Okinawa can join the Association. The membership fee is $20 per year per individual and $30 per year for family membership. The Association is supported by membership fees and by volunteer work.

To become a member, please fill out and return the membership application (PDF/1.3MB) along with a check (made payable to “OKINAWA ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA, INC”) to:
